Art Space Vincennes will present a retrospective of non-objective mixed-media pieces by co-owner Amy DeLap. DeLap and her spouse Andrew Jendrzejewski opened the gallery in 2013 after retiring from Vincennes University. Andrew chaired the Art Department for over 20 years, and Amy taught painting and other studio classes. She studied art at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Washington University in St. Louis.  

This show will run from September 4 – October 23.  There will be change-out of work for the October 2 First Friday, with newer work coming in. The show’s title Past is Prologue acknowledges the evolution of ideas and imagery that can occur over an artist’s lifetime.

Over the past 40 years DeLap’s work has included both representational figure painting and non-objective collage work. While the differences in appearance between these two approaches to art-making are clear and even dramatic, both involve similar thinking about visual problem solving and are intended to carry meanings that transcend the obvious subject matter.  

The focus of this exhibition will be the non-objective work, including mixed-media collages done beginning in the early 1990’s and extending to the present.
