Word, Color, Light presents images taken by Life Magazine photographer Gjon Mili in 1949. Using time exposure, Mili recorded Picasso using a small pen light to “draw’ animal figures from memory in the air of a dark space. The works are presented in a variety of colored panels, each with a different Picasso quote that defines art and artist in various ways.
The Tree of Hope and Gratitude is a blue metal “tree” planted on the gallery’s front lawn. Wooden leaves can be picked up in the gallery, and visitors are invited to write messages of hope and gratitude on these leaves to be shared by being hung on the tree.
