Indianapolis painter Courtland Blade explores the qualities of urban places, both those which are centers intended for human habitat and those which are not–and the blurring between them in Place or NonPlace. His manner may recall Arthur Dove or Milton Avery with animated and simplified forms of clouds, trees, shadows, and reflections. Architecture is also simplified, charmingly, yet still with recognizable observation of locations in Indianapolis.
