For Those Who Love the World

Carol Messer seeks out and explores hidden waterways in Knox County, photographing them during varied seasons, often at liminal times of day.  She focuses on the complexity and delicacy of branches and foliage and the many variations of light on the surface of water.

Also included in her exhibition were exquisitely delicate color pencil drawings of plants, and intricately detailed miniature porcelain landscapes.

These artworks are visual meditations on the prolific beauty that can be found all around us in the natural world.

Carol's title for her exhibition, For Those Who Love the World, is the English dedication used by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin in his influential book, The Divine Milieu. It is often paired with the Latin phrase "Sic Deus dilexit mundum" (Thus God loved the world), reflecting His focus on allowing the divine to manifest through the material world.
