St. Louis artist Nancy Newman Rice after her work in two other series Reflections and Sacred Spaces, finds affinity with TS Eliot’s Poem, Ash Wednesday, in a series of new paintings.  Her keen observation of the play between architectural forms, light, color and space dissolves form into layers and reflections, from the substantial to the ephemeral, the worldly to the heavenly. Through the geometry of scaffolding and window blinds, she evokes ascent to a higher plane of contemplation and transformation. We must use heart, mind and soul, as both Rice and Eliot have, to enter into these sacred spaces, to meanings for ourselves.  As part of the Art Space Vincennes‘ Spiritual Journeys series, Nancy Newman Rice’s work is an exceptional example of contemporary art worthy of our serious exploration, visually and conceptually.
