Focus on Arthur Fields

Director of Shircliff Gallery

“I am an Army brat raised in Texas, who loves ice cream as much as I love my camera!” says Arthur Fields.   Fields joined the Vincennes University art faculty and became Shircliff Gallery Director last year.  He arrived from Dallas, Texas, where he taught graphic design and photography at several local colleges and universities.

Fields completed a Master of Fine Arts in Photography in May of 2011 at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas and earned a BFA in Digital Imaging and Photography at Washington University in St. Louis in 2008. “It was the time I spent in St. Louis that shaped my work and interest in the Midwest art community.”

Most of his work concentrates on what he calls “conceptual portraiture” and “contemporary landscapes.” He uses current technology and various social networks as a starting point. His current work focuses on “imagery of representation and self.”

Over the past ten years, he has also worked at several national organizations in various capacities (i.e. gallery assistant, PR coordinator, and artist relations manager). As he transitions into the position of Shircliff Gallery Director, he wants to continue to foster and introduce the work of other artists from the Midwest, as well as bring to our vibrant art community art from the national and international scene. “Ultimately, my job is to encourage student artists, build audiences, stimulate dialogue about art and educate through exhibitions and community programming.”
