The art includes oil and acrylic painting, drawing, bronze, plaster, encaustic, paper, glass and wood sculpture, found object and mixed media sculpture, glass, ceramics, photography, graphic design, digital printing, collage and mixed media two-dimensional work, and installation art. The diversity of styles and approaches to art-making collectively express the gallery’s mission of bringing new and thought-provoking art experiences to the community.

Regular gallery hours: Tue & Thu 12 – 5 pm, Fri & Sat. 12 – 7 pm. You will also find the gallery open at other times as the historic Cyrus Allen building is also a working studio for the two business owners.

Northwest Territory Art Guild, 316 Main will feature works by Olney, Illinois artist Angie Allen.  Allen, an abstract painter, employs a pouring method with water-based acrylic paints.  The acrylic paint, with fluidity enhanced at times with floetrol, silicone, and other additives, is usually poured onto a canvas.  Allen has also poured onto grounds such as ceramic tile, jupo paper, cardstock, and records.  The paintings are finished with a polycrylic seal.  Originally from Hamilton, Illinois, Allen earned a B.A. in Art from Quincy University and has lived in Olney since 2006. Other seasonally themed art and craft items created by guild members will be on display and for sale.

Regular gallery hours: Tue – Fri 11 am – 4:30 pm, Sat 11 am – 2 pm.

Open Gallery, 329 Main will round out its Summer of Ceramics series by introducing Indiana native and DePauw University/Vincennes University professor Brittany Sievers. Sievers will exhibit a combination of sculptural and textile pieces that, “transform my mindful labor into a platform that allows the viewer to actively notice: the area of the room they occupy, the slight variations within the material itself, and the influence of my individual touch.”   Her most recent work, Fine-Grained, will be on display through the month of August. Opening reception seasonal fare and the Open Gallery Players will welcome all who attend this event.

The gallery is open most regularly Saturday afternoons, though one may find the doors open at other times as well.

Watermelon Festival activities will also begin Friday evening on Main Street and will include live music, food vendors, and a carnival on Gimbel Corner.
