Come into the Cool!
Your downtown Vincennes Art Galleries will again be offering special experiences for art lovers Friday August 7, between 5 – 8 p.m.
Art Space Vincennes 521 Main will continue Magic Realism: Luisa Cohrs, an exhibition of paintings and drawings. A new book about the exhbition will be available for pre-order. The works of this Los Angeles-based artist recall her past, including her childhood in Colombia, and investigate social and political issues surrounding Colombia’s complex recent history. Cohrs has created a temporary installation charcoal drawing on the hallway wall of ASV. The last day to see her show will be August 15. Barbara Edwards will again treat visitors to her gourmet refreshments, made from locally sourced organic ingredients when available.
The Northwest Territory Art Guild 316 Main will open an exhibition of works by two well-known and respected local artists, Tony Bouillet and Bill Meyer. Both artists look to nature for their inspiration. Bouillet is especially noted for his dramatic, life-sized sculptures of birds of prey and waterfowl in flight, and has also produced paintings and smaller sculptures of these subjects. His work is sought by collectors throughout the country. Meyer has shared his expertise in watercolor painting as a teacher for over 47 years, at South Knox High School and most recently in the Vincennes University Art Department. His landscape studies are distinguished by his careful observation of nature and his ability to distill his visual experiences into elegantly organized compositions. Art works in a variety of styles and media done by guild members will be available in the guild shop.
Mike and Rebecca Mullen, who own the Open Gallery 329 Main, will continue the Artists Collect exhibition, with all new works. Again art will be shown from the personal collections of local artists and gallery directors including works from the collection of painter Sara Frenz. The show presents a wide range of media and approaches to art-making, with text discussion of each piece. This provides a glimpse into the dynamics of art collecting – what motivates collectors, and how they choose the works they acquire. There will again be live Irish music, provided by local musicians.
Art in the windows of many downtown stores will again turn Main Street into a street-long art experience. Don’t miss another opportunity for an art-filled First Friday summer stroll, brought to you by your local art galleries.
