The Heart of the Summer!

On Friday July 3, between 5 – 8 p.m., Visitors will find new art experiences awaiting them at all Main Street Vincennes art galleries.

Art Space Vincennes 521 Main will open Magic Realism of Luisa Cohrs, an exhibition of paintings and drawings.  The works of this Los Angeles-based artist recall her past, including her childhood in Colombia, and investigate social and political issues surrounding Colombia’s complex recent history.   Cohrs will also create a video-documented installation charcoal drawing on the hallway wall of ASV.  Barbara Edwards will return with her gourmet refreshments, made from locally sourced organic ingredients when available.  Edwards will be deriving some of her offerings from traditional South American cuisine.

The Northwest Territory Art Guild 316 Main will open an exhibition of works by Deborah and Bernard Hagedorn.  Deborah Hagedorn will be showing prints and collages done with a variety of printmaking, drawing and painting techniques.  Bernard Hagedorn will exhibit sculpture maquettes and large-scale drawings created with spray paint, charcoal and graphite.  An example of his large-scale sculpture can be seen in front of the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.  Both artists teach in the Art Department at Vincennes University.  Art works in a variety of styles and media done by guild members will be available in the guild shop.

Mike and Rebecca Mullen, who own the Open Gallery 329 Main, will show Artists Collect. This exhibition will feature works from the personal collections of local artists and gallery owners including themselves, Tom Bartholomew of Bartholomew Wedding Photography and Andrew Jendrzejewski and Amy DeLap of Art Space Vincennes. The show will offer a glimpse into the dynamics of art collecting – what motivates collectors, and how do they choose the works they acquire. There will again be live Irish music, provided by local musicians.

Art will liven up the windows of many downtown stores.  Come down to Main Street on First Friday for an art-filled summer stroll.
