June First Friday Art Walk: Cars and Art!
On Friday June 5, between 5 – 8 p.m., your downtown Vincennes galleries invite you to experience new art, light refreshments, music and more. New First Friday events have been organized by Sara Frenz, Anne Pratt and Shyla Beam. Main Street will be blocked off for the evening, and lined with antique cars. Live music will be performed by The Hip Replacements in front of the former Zander’s building, and fashion models from Posh and Scruples will stroll Main Street throughout the evening. Local restaurants will be open for dinner, and the Thainamite food truck will be serving Thai food just off Main. Daphne the Balloon Girl will be present with her mobile balloon shop. Art will be shown in the windows of many of the downtown stores.
Art Space Vincennes
521 Main will continue Disturbances in the Field, Art by Sara Risley until June 13th. This Milwaukee-based artist is showing photo based digital images and acrylic paintings. While her painting recalls American Abstract Expressionism, her photography-based images are intense bursts of saturated color, abstracted form and texture. A book about her work is now available for sale.
Georgia-based folk artist Rudolph Bostic will show new works that were not previously seen in the Cardboard Chronicles show in April.
Barbara Edwards will return with her gourmet refreshments, made from locally sourced organic ingredients when available.
The Northwest Territory Art Guild
316 Main will feature a selection of Red Skelton’s Original Sketches on loan from the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy and Vintage WW2 Posters on loan from the Indiana Military Museum. Art works in a variety of styles and media done by guild members will be available in the guild shop.
The Open Gallery
329 Main will show Abstract Paintings by Jeremy Matick. This local artist’s paintings explore his interest in “finding surprising and unplanned formal interactions of color, mass, texture and movement” that aim toward creating an interaction with the viewer at “an unconscious level where words fail but the potential to experience a rich visual poetry is always present”. There will again be live Irish music, provided by local musicians. They will feature food from World Cuisine restaurant adjoining Natural Blessings at 9th and Main Streets.
Tom Bartholomew
of Bartholomew’s Wedding Photography will be on the street to take your photograph next to Red Skelton’s vintage Mercedes or next to a vintage military vehicle.
