Starting with our new look!

Happy New Year!  We, Amy and Andy, at Art Space Vincennes are starting off the new year by initiating a new way of communicating with our email subscribers, using MailChimp.  This will enable us to be more efficient and to adopt “best practices” with our email list.  We will be generating an exhibition invitation/newsletter every one or two months.

If you haven’t already received our January invitation/newsletter (this post) via email , and wish to continue receiving such messages, please subscribe below by filling out the form and clicking on subscribe, which will automatically add you to our email list.  If you prefer not to receive these messages, simply do nothing, and no further emails will come to you from us.  Of course, we hope you will want to continue receiving information about the art and artists we bring to Vincennes, by “opting in”.

…A new sign in front
Pole Barn Cropped
A new storage place in back…

Watch our front; watch our back!

We have added something in front of our space…finally! We now have a new sign with the logo we’re using at the top of this newsletter.  After over a year of being in business, we still hear people saying, “I didn’t know about you,”  or “Where are you?”.  We hope this sign will make our presence on main street more clear.  If you see Pravin Sevak, who designed the logo, or Mike Doan of Creative DeSigns, who made the sign, please tell them, “Wow!”  More will be happening as the weather warms up, but we’ll leave that for another time!

In back of the gallery, we have had a new pole barn constructed by DC Metals.  We will use that space for gallery storage.  Andy will appreciate reclaiming his sculpture studio, which over the year has filled up with pedestals, paint, lights and other materials needed for installations.

3CP
Third Coast Percussion, will tap, beat, thump and ting their array of instruments as they perform and teach aspects of percussion music for four days in Vincennes and Wednesday at Art Space Vincennes!

Music! …and Science?

From the beginning, we have thought about ways of introducing  other art forms at Art Space Vincennes. What about bringing in young actors to do cutting-edge performance art, dancers who can use the space of the four gallery rooms.  There could be poetry readings, story-telling, culinary art happenings and music.

Music?  Surely by now you have heard aboutThird Coast Percussion coming to town for a four day residency beginning January 27.   As part of their visit, Art Space Vincennes will host these musicians, who will perform with portable instruments and chat with visitors who attend their appearance at this intimate venue.  Please join us 7 – 8 pm, Wednesday, January 28.  There is no admission fee, and light refreshments will be offered. Here’s their full schedule:

HFL Love Thy Nature small ad
Love Thy Nature, Design for Good Reasons by Pravin Sevak will begin March 6’s First Friday Art Walk.

First Friday Art Walk on March 6, reception: 5-8 pm.  A new show Love Thy Nature, Design For Good Causes by Pravin Sevak opens and begins our regular gallery hours for the 2015 season. Sevak presents to viewers moral and ethical choices through visual pun.  Through beautiful design, he creates powerful and subtle messages challenging our personal character using as little visual information as possible. He employs words and/or images to reduce all possible delusion and ambiguity down to a simple yes or no, this or that choice, emulating a prosecuting lawyer in a court of law. He cuts past the skin, fat and meat of an issue straight down to the bare bone.  Sevak’s design carries a distinct moral edge, though communicated with a pleasurable, subtle, and humorous twist.  His works are strong because they are understated, that is, peacefully communicated. Sevak avoids the caustic “yelling” of commercial and political ads that force-feed us with ideological manipulation. Sevak’s works are whispers of consciousness that present decisions for us to contemplate.
