On Memorial Day Weekend it is sometimes difficult to remember why the weekend is established.  Lakes, parties, get togethers, picnics, and in Vincennes The Vincennes Rendezvous, complete with 18th century costumes, the reenactments and canon fire of the British, German and Revolutionary American soldiers, 19th century crafts and food and music.  Often we associate the weekend with plenty of sunshine, some of the first we have had in a long winter, heat, sunburns and lots of walking and family time.

I might suggest a little respite in the cool of our gallery at Art Space Vincennes, 521 Main Street, to contemplate the last showing of the show Sacred Spaces, Paintings by Nancy Newman Rice.  The works are exquisite, beautiful and evocative of the sacred spaces in our minds, souls and hearts.  It is an appropriate place to be this Memorial Day Weekend as we contemplate the sacrifices of service men during the various wars of this country.  The show and atmosphere at Art Space Vincennes is quiet, cool beautiful and peaceful, away from the crowds, but there art ever sings off the walls.  We will have the gallery open during special hours both Saturday and Sunday. Come and visit us for 10 minutes or for an hour or more, so that you and others can come and contemplate the sacred spaces of loved ones lost to war.

Hours this weekend:   Friday 12-5, Saturday 12-2 or maybe even 5 and Sunday 12 – 5.
